Historical Postcards

    A historical postcard creates a theme by using  an image, a quote and a figure from the census data to work together to inspire curiosity and insight into the theme of the postcard. (1790-1860).

1) Choose a famous American, a novel, an historic setting or an  event,  you are interested in
2) Gather information and a picture from the Internet
3) Find the name of the county you person or event is centered in by going to the National Association of Counties page at http://www.naco.org/

  •     click on "About Counties" then "Find a County" - follow the directions for finding the county associated with your person or event.

  • 4) Go to the Historical United States Census Browser and find the year and county associated with you figure or event. http://fisher.lib.virginia.edu/census/
    5) Find a census fact that illustrates some aspect of your figure or event.
    6) Use WORD to assemble a postcard as demonstrated below.
